Day 18 – Suffering

Hello there! Today we are going to tackle suffering.

The uncertainties in life sometimes leave you wondering why you have to go through challenging experiences, and how you could ever come out of it without giving up. But the good news is: tough times always pass over – no matter how long it takes. Some of the suffering you experience makes you drained physically and emotionally with little strength to fight for what you desire. There’s always light at the end of the tunnel, but how well you can get through to the end depends on your willpower to forge ahead when all hope seems lost.

What do you understand by suffering? Suffering is a state of undergoing some form of pain, misery or hardship. Suffering could be in different forms like emotional torture when heartbroken, having an accident with injuries that give physical pain, or having little or no means to survive.

What is the Meaning of My Suffering?

You may ask yourself some serious questions like “why do I have to experience this pain and what does it mean?” If care is not taken, prolonged suffering could lead to depression and the worst case scenario of blaming everyone around including yourself for the unpleasant situation you have to contend with that is beyond your control.

You may be out of a relationship or marriage and suffer from the pains of being ignored, taken for granted or forsaken. While you may never be able to fathom all of the reasons or meaning for your suffering, you have to rise to the challenge and actively look for solutions. Talking with people may help, due to various perspectives of others and their approach to issues. When you correctly identify the root of the suffering, then you can find ways to resolve it effectively.

Are You Mad at God?

You may be tempted to think God has abandoned you in the midst of the suffering and all hope is, but don’t despair. More often than not, your present state is usually through your actions or inactions. You should hold yourself responsible for the situation you’re currently going through to avoid a repeat occurrence. Being angry at God will not help the issue, but will make you lose focus on why you have to undergo this particular pain.

Resilience

Most times, the reason why you suffer is due to the conflicts of interests in your desires or expectations, which could lead to frustration and depression. To overcome any form of suffering you’re presently dealing with, you need to develop strength of character and resilience. Concentrate on the bigger picture because it will keep your hope alive and gives you the necessary zeal to overcome the situation as soon as possible.

Turning the Bad Situation Into a Positive

The present bad situation could become good for you. You can either GO through the bad situation or you can GROW through the bad situation. Give any obstacles or bad situations that you find yourself in PURPOSE by learning from them and growing through the process. Learn to look within and bring out the potential you possess gradually by taking the right steps. Change your approach to life and learn from your mistakes.

Understand that setbacks are not meant to keep you down, but are there for you to learn, with opportunities to improve and become a better person. If you lost your job and things are tough financially, it usually means that you need to diversify your means of income and never depend on only one source of revenue for survival. Your period of suffering can also help you realize that you should always have a backup plan and it will always prepare you for the worst. There are so many benefits to the bad things in life, if you just really stop and look for them!

So let’s go see if we can dig some gold out of your worst sufferings, so head on over to our exercise book and let’s get digging.
